For the GMUzbekistan company, the Gentra sedan released not so long ago became another success. Copied in general terms with the Chevrolet Lacetti, it easily found its target audience, who appreciated the reliability and attractiveness of the vehicle. Ravon Gentra, which has a ground clearance of 160 mm, is designed for travel within urban conditions and country trips.

The technical base and comfort of the equipped interior allows it to be called one of the best versions of budget cars on the modern car market.

Clearance Ravon Gentra

It’s not appropriate for a C-class to cling to curbs while parking and lie on its belly when negotiating poor-quality sections of the road. This is what the Uzbek manufacturers decided when re-facing the model.

Reviewing the dimensions of the body and the nature of the position of the chassis, they focused on ground clearance, increasing it by 15 mm. Thus, they managed to increase the level of safety and maneuverability of the car.

  • Nexia has almost the same ground clearance -

It should be remembered that the Chevrolet Lacetti's ground clearance was only 145 mm, which is clearly not enough for a quiet and painless ride, given the quality of city and transit roads.

Dimensions Daewoo Gentra not much different from its predecessor, the Chevrolet Lacetti. In fact, the body of the cars is exactly the same. Real Daewoo Gentra ground clearance is 150 mm.

The trunk is also not large, only 405 liters, but the interior is spacious. For some foreign cars, according to official data, ground clearance can be 16 or 17 centimeters, but when measuring with a tape measure, it turns out that the real ground clearance is clearly less than declared. In this regard, the Daewoo Gentra has a fair ground clearance of 15 centimeters under engine protection.

Large interior of Daewoo Gentra, one of the main advantages of the car. The wheelbase, which determines the spaciousness of the interior, is 2 meters 60 cm. If you compare this indicator with competitors in price, it turns out that the Gentra is the most spacious. Below are detailed information about the dimensions of Daewoo Gentra.

Daewoo Gentra ground clearance, dimensions, trunk

  • Length – 4515 mm
  • Width – 1725 mm
  • Height – 1445 mm
  • Curb weight – from 1245 kg
  • Gross weight – 1660 kg
  • Base, distance between front and rear axle – 2600 mm
  • Front and rear wheel track – 1480 mm
  • Trunk volume – 405 liters (with seats folded 1225 liters)
  • Fuel tank volume – 60 liters
  • Tire size – 195/55 R15
  • Ground clearance Daewoo Gentra – 150 mm

As for the trunk of the Daewoo Gentra, it is quite large; the loading opening allows you to load almost any item. The folding rear seat makes it possible to load quite long items. In all trim levels, the rear seat folds in a ratio of 60 to 40. The trunk volume is 405 liters, although visually it is much larger. The reason is simple, there is a full-size spare tire under the floor, plus there is room for tools and a jack. Let's look photo of Daewoo Gentra trunk below.

In general, Daewoo Gentra is a full-fledged C-class car, which has no competitors in price among its classmates. Of course, the car is already morally outdated, but this does not frighten our fellow citizens, who care about the price and capacity of the car more than its appearance or technical perfection.

Dimensions of Daewoo Gentra correspond to the dimensions of a “C” class car. The fairly decent length of the wheelbase provides spaciousness in the cabin, especially in the rear, which competitors in this price category cannot boast of. In principle, the body dimensions of the Daewoo Gentra are identical to those of the Chevrolet Lacetti, which is not surprising.

Daewoo Gentra length is 4515 mm, the wheelbase determining the spaciousness in the cabin (the distance between the axles) is 2600 mm. The size of the luggage compartment is not large by today's standards - only 405 liters, but it is worth considering that under the floor of the Gentra's trunk there is an additional compartment to accommodate a full-size spare wheel. By the way, the rear seats fold easily and the loading space increases to 1225 liters.

The height of the family sedan according to the passport data is 1445 mm. The track of the rear and front wheels is exactly the same and has a length of 1480 mm. A question that concerns many buyers in our country is the ground clearance or ground clearance of the car. Ground clearance of Daewoo Gentra is 150 mm. However, it is worth considering that the clearance may not coincide with these data. Let's say you put tires on your car with a larger or smaller profile than the manufacturer recommends. Over time, the car's springs sag and the clearance becomes smaller. It is logical that the clearance of an empty and loaded car has different indicators. In principle, the ground clearance of the Daewoo Gentra is not very large, but also not the smallest in its class.

Dimensions of Daewoo Gentra, trunk volume, weight

  • Length – 4515 mm
  • Width – 1725 mm
  • Height – 1445 mm
  • Curb weight – 1245 kg
  • Gross weight – 1660 kg
  • Base, distance between front and rear axle – 2600 mm
  • Front/rear wheel track – 1480/1480 mm
  • The minimum trunk volume of the Daewoo Gentra is 405 liters
  • Trunk volume with rear seats folded – 1225 liters
  • Fuel tank volume – 60 liters
  • Tire size – 195\55 R15 / 6.0J
  • Ground clearance or ground clearance of Daewoo Gentra – 150 mm

The interior space of the car is very ergonomic. There is room for both the driver and front passenger, as well as for passengers in the rear row of seats. The most interesting thing is that some cars in a higher class do not have much more space in the back than in the Gentra. The only negative is the ceiling above the driver, which has become a little lower due to the installation of a sunroof. But a sunroof is not installed on all trim levels, but seat height adjustment is available on all. The problem of flow, which may not seem very good (for tall drivers), can be solved by adjusting the driver's seat.

To summarize, we can note the following Daewoo Gentra, this is a full-fledged spacious sedan for the whole family. Spacious interior and large trunk. Yes, even if the car is not very modern, all shortcomings are compensated by the low price.

Exactly a year ago, the UZ Daewoo company decided to create a new budget car that would combine all the positive qualities of a sedan and at the same time be affordable to ordinary citizens of the CIS. So, in 2013, the new Daewoo Gentra began to be produced at Uz-Daewoo. Photos and descriptions of this budget car are further in our review.

About the platform

The designers of UZ Daewoo did not bother creating a completely new frame and body for the car and borrowed the platform from the Chevrolet Lacetti.

However, despite numerous responses from drivers who emphasized the absolute similarity of the new car with the Lacetti, the Gentra sedan has a large number of differences, among which it should be emphasized:

New body design. This includes a different design and shape of the front of the car, including the headlights and front bumper.

New motor. The new Daewoo Gentra, instead of the 1.4 and 1.6-liter power plants used on the Lacetti, is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

New suspension. This particularly applies to the rear. Here, instead of an independent one, the engineers decided to use a torsion beam.

Design of the Daewoo Gentra car

Owner reviews, as we noted earlier, noted many similarities between the new product and the design of its predecessor, the Chevrolet Lacetti. Yes this is true. If you compare the rear and side parts of the Lacetti body with the new Daewoo Gentra sedan, the photos will definitely be similar. The rear brake lights are made as if they were a carbon copy. The side remains unchanged - the same thick body-color paint, muscular wheel arches and large windshield. However, thanks to minor changes in the headlights, hood and front bumper, the current Uzbek no longer looks like its Korean ancestor.

And now in more detail about the Daewoo Gentra sedan itself. Reviews from owners primarily note the presence of new drop-shaped headlights in the front of the car, which apparently have become a distinctive feature of the new sedan. Also ahead we see a different radiator grille and roads looking rapidly into the distance. The bumper on the car is devoid of any expressive or prominent features, which immediately indicates that the new Daewoo Gentara is a budget car. Owner reviews note the possibility of painting the bumper in body color. Let us remember that the lack of such an “option” was significantly felt at the UZ Daewoo plant during the production of budget Nexia cars - the black matte bumper did not fit into the overall design of the car and looked somewhat ugly. Although some motorists note that now, due to the low ground clearance, the Daewoo Gentara will constantly “catch” small pebbles on the road, which can cause various microcracks and scratches on the paintwork.

In general, Due Gentra has a very friendly, interesting and smiling appearance. And with its design it is suitable not only for established married couples, but also for active youth.

Strange hybrid

Unlike the Chevrolet Lacetti, which was mass-produced in three modifications (hatchback, sedan and station wagon), the new Uzbek car has only one body option - a sedan. However, its design has been greatly changed. Therefore, the Gentra cannot be called a full-fledged sedan. In fact, the new product has a body mixed between a sedan and a station wagon, but according to the documents it qualifies only as the first option.

Interior

The new Daewoo Gentra (see photo of the interior a little below) looks almost the same inside as its companion platform, the Chevrolet Lacetti. Moreover, unlike the design, virtually no changes were made to the interior. This is evidenced by the bright plastic inserts “like wood”, and indeed by the entire architecture of the front panel of the car. But these are not all the features of the Daewoo Gentra sedan. Reviews from car enthusiasts note the presence of soft, high-quality plastic in the cabin, and this is simply rare for budget C-class cars. Also, high-quality wooden inserts and a soft pad on the front panel add chic to the interior.

But not everything is so smooth and attractive at first glance. The Daewoo Gentra also has many disadvantages. For example, the car has cheap plastic buttons and unpleasant-to-touch knobs and switches. I was also not pleased with the audio system, which does not have a USB output at all. Whatever one may say, the “Uzbeks” could not avoid being budget-conscious.

In the further description of the interior, it is impossible not to note the presence of a hatch - such a thing is not present on every car costing up to 400-500 thousand rubles. But, unfortunately, this option will be present only in top trim levels. For the comfort of the driver and passengers, the cabin is equipped with various cup holders, an armrest, many shelves, pockets and niches for things.

The steering wheel has no bulges and fits comfortably in your hands. But the designers of the Daewoo Gentra sedan have yet to talk about perfection. The test drive showed that the new product is far inferior to its “classmates” in terms of operating comfort. Drivers were also upset by the sound insulation - on the road you can hear everything that happens to the engine. The instrument panel is simple and clear, without any bells and whistles or other additional functions. Visibility inside is excellent. In addition, the Gentra has large rear-view mirrors, thanks to which the driver can fully control the situation on the road and see what is happening in front, on the sides and behind the car.

As for the seats in the Daewoo Gentra, reviews from owners note many shortcomings in the shape and design of the driver's seat. To be specific, the seats of the new product are very flat and short. However, among the advantages it should be noted a wide adjustment range of chair height and backrest tilt. By the way, in top trim levels the driver’s seat even has lumbar adjustment.

How are things going with the other half of the seats? The rear row of seats is located very low, but there is enough free space for passengers. And thanks to the special position of the ceiling, even the tallest basketball player can ride inside comfortably - such space is almost never found in budget-class cars.

We move to the trunk. And here a surprise awaits us. The total trunk volume is only 405 liters. That is, it is practically impossible to place large luggage here. For comparison, the total volume of the luggage compartment of the Daewoo Nexia is 510 liters. The hinges holding the lid are not made very well, and they also take up a lot of space inside the compartment.

There is space under the raised floor for a spare wheel. And a special hook is attached to the panel to lift the disk and secure it to the trunk lid.

"Daewoo Gentra" - technical characteristics

Unfortunately, the new Uzbek-made sedan has only one power plant in its engine range. It is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve petrol unit with an in-line arrangement of cylinders with a volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 105 horsepower. Its torque peak at 4000 rpm is 139 Nm. The engine meets the requirements of the Euro-5 standard in terms of exhaust toxicity. Among the disadvantages of the engine, car owners note that it takes a long time to warm up, and this is a big drawback for residents of the northern latitudes of Russia.

As for the gearbox, the new Daewoo Gentra is equipped with one six-speed automatic transmission and one 5-speed manual transmission. The latter will be available in both basic and top trim levels. The Daewoo Gentra automatic sedan has a not very acceptable “appetite” - from 8.5 to 9.5 liters (depending on the gearbox chosen by the buyer) per 100 kilometers in mixed mode. The engine can run on both 95 and 92 gasoline, which is important for car enthusiasts in the CIS countries (the car will be easier to transfer fuel without clogging the system). At the same time, the maximum speed of the 1300-kilogram car is 164 kilometers per hour. The dash from zero to “hundreds” is estimated at 11.9 seconds. For a family sedan, these are quite sufficient characteristics.

By the way, the manual transmission that is now installed on the Gentra was previously supplied to the Chevrolet Cobalt. In this regard, for Daewoo Gentra, spare parts for the transmission can be purchased from Chevrolet. Also one of the advantages of this box is its simple and reliable design. But as reviews say, such a manual transmission has one big drawback - unclear gear shifting. But let's hope that UZ Daewoo engineers will soon correct this shortcoming.

Despite the fact that the Daewoo Gentra is equipped with the same power unit and gearbox as its fellow Chevrolet Cobalt, the electronic control unit, according to Uzbek designers, will have slightly different settings. Also, the Gentra ECU is capable of self-learning.

The ground clearance deserves special attention. The distance from the bottom to the asphalt of the Daewoo Genrta is simply meager - 14 centimeters. With such ground clearance, there is no need to talk about the vehicle's cross-country ability. And if we also take into account the fact that when fully loaded, the ground clearance will drop by a few more millimeters, the Gentra can only be driven on German autobahns, because the driver cannot do without additional crankcase protection to drive on dirt roads.

About the chassis system

The suspension of the new Uzbek sedan is independent. The front is a McPherson type, and the rear is a multi-link. In this case, the car is equipped with disc brakes on the front and rear wheels. As we noted earlier, the chassis of the Daewoo Gentra was borrowed from the Chevrolet Lacetti. Despite this, many drivers find similarities in the behavior of the new car’s suspension with the French-made budget sedan Renault Logan.

Safety first

Probably every car enthusiast has watched videos of crash tests of Uzbek-assembled cars. And it doesn’t matter what model it is, the main thing is that the result was the same - the car was completely crushed into a huge lump of iron at 60 kilometers per hour. As a result, Uzbek-assembled cars simply did not receive ratings higher than 3 out of 6 for safety. However, the story with Gentra is completely different. Why is the new product no longer crumpled into a lump like its predecessors? It's all about the body design, which was created by Korean engineers. They have never made bad cars, and the Chevrolet Lacetti was no exception for them. Along with the platform, the 4-door Daewoo Gentra also adopted a high level of safety. Although here the Uzbeks decided to make their own small adjustments.

Thus, the new car is equipped with two front airbags, reliable 3-point seat belts with height adjustment, an electronic seat belt indicator and a rear door locking system. The last function deserves special attention - while the car is moving, smart electronics automatically close the rear locks, and the risk of someone falling out onto the road will be completely eliminated.

And let's go back to the body. The Daewoo Gentra completely inherited it from the Lacetti, as evidenced by the crash test results (4 points out of 5 possible). We also note that the thickness of the power elements of the car body is 0.8 millimeters - absolutely all global manufacturers try to adhere to these parameters. But whether this body will hold up in 5-10 years, or will rot in the 3rd year of operation (like the Uzbek-assembled Nexia), time will tell. However, "Gentra" so far has all the prospects only for a successful debut, although in the first months of sale no excitement was noticed among car enthusiasts.

Options

We have already considered what technical characteristics Daewoo Gentra has, now let’s move on to the issue of purchase. On the Russian market, the buyer will be offered several vehicle configurations:

  1. "Comfort".
  2. "Optimum".
  3. "Optimum Plus"
  4. "Elegant".

In terms of equipment, the Daewoo Gentra surpasses those of many of its Korean and Japanese competitors. The basic equipment includes air conditioning, fog lights, heating and electric side adjustment, 6 speakers, electric windows (on all doors!), 2 front airbags, and an immobilizer. At the same time, the Comfort package has a standard audio system with a CD slot. The steering column is adjustable only in height. The base also includes hydraulic power steering. As you can see, the level of equipment of the basic Gentra is quite rich.

The top-end package will include fifteen-inch alloy wheels, anti-lock wheels, an armrest for the rear row of seats, wood-look interior trim, reach-adjustable steering column, heated front driver and passenger seats, a sunroof and full power accessories.

Prices

As for the cost, the starting price for the new Daewoo Gentra sedan on the Russian market starts at 414 thousand rubles. Optionally, the buyer can order an automatic transmission. However, for this pleasure you will have to pay an additional 50 thousand rubles. The maximum configuration will cost about 490 thousand rubles. This includes a standard 1.5-liter petrol engine and a five-speed gearbox. The car, equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, will be available to Russians at a price of 542 thousand rubles. As you can see, the price for the Daewoo Gentra sedan is quite affordable, especially considering the level of equipment included in the basic configuration.

Conclusion

The Daewoo Gentra passenger car is, in fact, a converted Chevrolet Lacetti (we were convinced of this during our review), only this product is not Korean, but Uzbek. The obvious advantages of this car, of course, is the cost, which starts at 400 thousand rubles. It is unlikely that for such a price you can find anything suitable on the Russian market, and if you consider that this is a full-fledged sedan with air conditioning and power accessories as standard, then the Gentra can be forgiven a lot. And there is no need to criticize this car for such money, as some car enthusiasts do. Whether to buy it or not is a personal matter for everyone. However, in any case, the car is worth the money.

At the end of 2013, a new model appeared in Russia Daewoo Gentra, the price of which made potential buyers very happy. However, the new Daewoo Gentra turned out to be not such a new car. Previously in Russia this car was sold under the name Chevrolet Lacetti.

However, the Chevrolet Lacetti was quickly replaced by a more modern model, the Chevrolet Cruze. Initially, Daewoo Lacetti appeared back in 2002 at a motor show in Korea. Since then, the car has been sold under various names around the world. Canada, USA, India, China, Russia, Europe in all these countries the car was sold (or is being sold) with minor changes, to suit the characteristics of local markets. The development of Korean engineers was called differently by Suzuki Forenza (USA) or Buick-Excel (China). Now in Russia this car is called Daewoo Gentra.

The question immediately arises, How does the Daewoo Gentra differ from the Chevrolet Lacheti?? On the outside, the sedan received a new bumper, radiator grille and headlights from the Lacetti hatchback. Let us remind you that the Lacheti sedan and hatch had different head optics. The suspension and chassis remained unchanged. By the way, Gentra’s mirrors were made a little larger in size than their predecessor’s.

In technical terms, changes are minimal. A 5-speed manual is installed as a gearbox, which is also found on the top-end Nexia with a 16-valve engine and was installed on the Lacheti. But an automatic transmission with 6 speed ranges, that is, 6 speed. The automatic transmission and engine came from a Chevrolet Cobalt. The power unit produces 107 hp. Gentra does not have any other engines yet.

Concerning Daewoo Gentra salon, then the manufacturer did not reinvent the wheel; almost everything remained from Lacetti. True, in the top versions there was a sunroof and wood-look inserts. The assembly of the interior is not so clear, there are noticeable gaps in some places. In addition, the doors of the new product close in a peculiar way, because of the seals of which they did not spare, you need to slam harder. This is in contrast to other foreign cars, where a little effort is enough.

Where is Daewoo Gentra assembled? The answer is simple - in Uzbekistan! The same place where Daewoo Nexia and Matiz are produced. Assembly is carried out with the participation of General Motors specialists. Actually, the Uzbek assembly makes the car very affordable.

Technical characteristics of Daewoo Gentra

As mentioned earlier, in technical terms, the Daewoo Gentra is similar to the Lacheti, but the car’s power unit is different. Dimensions, dimensions, trunk volume Daewoo Gentra classifies the car as a C-class (golf class). This is a full-fledged 5-seater sedan, with a spacious trunk.

As for the chassis of the Daewoo Gentra, it is a complete copy of the Lacetti. That is, there is an independent MacPherson suspension at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear. This design ensures the comfort and stability of the car on our rough roads. There are disc brakes both front and rear. The hydraulic booster is present in all trim levels. Further more detailed technical characteristics of Daewoo Gentra.

Options and price of Daewoo Gentra

Daewoo Gentra price, this is one of the main advantages of the car. The manufacturer offers several trim levels with one engine and two transmission options. Naturally, Daewoo Gentra is more expensive with automatic transmission. There are 5 car trim levels: Comfort, Comfort Plus, Optimum, Optimum Plus and Elegant. It is worth noting that already in the basic, cheapest version, Gentra is well packaged. It is worth considering that in May 2014 new Comfort Plus trim levels were added.

So the basic “Comfort” equipment of the Daewoo Gentra has two airbags (passenger and driver), air conditioning, power steering, electric windows (all doors) and electric mirrors. Also in the trunk you will find a full-size spare wheel R-15, there is steering wheel adjustment, there are fog lights and a lot of other useful things. After the appearance of the Comfort Plus package, it became impossible to buy a car in the initial “Comfort” version with an automatic transmission; now it is offered only starting with “Comfort Plus”.

The most expensive Daewoo Gentra equipment in the Elegant version has a sunroof, alloy wheels, heated front seats, an audio system, and wood trim. The driver's seat is adjustable in height and in the lumbar region, the steering wheel is adjustable not only for tilt, but also for reach!

In all sedan trim levels, bumpers, mirrors and door handles are painted in body color. And now about the current, relevant Daewoo Gentra price. If in 2013 the minimum cost of a car was only 399 thousand rubles (the most expensive 542 thousand), then in the current 2014 the price of a car has increased slightly, by about 20 thousand rubles. But a new initial version was added for the same 399 thousand rubles. All current prices and configurations for Gentra are below.

  • Daewoo Gentra Comfort 5-speed manual transmission – 399,000 rubles
  • Daewoo Gentra Comfort Plus 5-speed manual transmission – 419,000 rubles
  • Daewoo Gentra Comfort Plus automatic transmission 6-speed. – 459,000
  • Daewoo Gentra Optimum 5-speed manual transmission – 439,000
  • Daewoo Gentra Optimum automatic transmission 6-speed. – 479,000
  • Daewoo Gentra Optimum Plus 5-speed manual transmission – 449,000
  • Daewoo Gentra Optimum Plus automatic transmission 6-speed. – 489,000
  • Daewoo Gentra Elegant 5-speed manual transmission – 499,000
  • Daewoo Gentra Elegant automatic transmission 6-speed – 549,000

In all configurations, the price difference between a car with a manual and automatic transmission is exactly 40 thousand rubles. Quite fair pricing policy. After all, many offer their cars with an automatic transmission only in the top version, overpricing you with unnecessary options and inflating the price. With Daewoo Gentra everything is very democratic in this regard.

Video Daewoo Gentra

Very detailed video review of Daewoo Gentra. Test drive Daewoo Gentra takes place under real operating conditions. Acceleration to hundreds, ground clearance in this video review was measured empirically, using a stopwatch and tape measure. A very objective and detailed video.

To summarize, we can say that the Daewoo Gentra is a large, comfortable, and most importantly cheap car. Actually, in this segment, in terms of cost in Russia, Daewoo Gentra simply has no competitors. Getting a family 4-door sedan with a 6-speed automatic transmission for 500 thousand rubles is very attractive. Even a basic Lacetti three years ago cost more than a well-packaged Gentra today. A good gift for Chevrolet Lacetti lovers.
